STAR OF CALEDONIA tRUST (sOct)
Set up in 2009, the central purpose of Star of Caledonia Trust is to deliver and maintain Star of Caledonia. SOCT’s Trustees are: Lucy Houston, Susan Houston, Mark Jardine, Gretna and Rigg Community Council, Stuart Walker and Rod Wood.
Lucy Houston is Chairperson. Lucy is also a Director of Gretna Green Ltd, a fourth generation family business, and wife of the late Alasdair Houston.
Tom Littlewood, Director of Ginkgo Projects Ltd is managing project curation and delivery.
Balmond Studio
Led by Cecil Balmond OBE, Balmond Studio is an international research-led practice of architects, designers, artists and theoreticians. Balmond, one of the world’s leading thinkers on form and structure, is responsible for the overall design and identity of The Star and its detailed structural integrity and design. An internationally renowned artist, designer and engineer, he works in the crossover between art and science.
Balmond was previously Deputy Chairman of Arup, Chairman of Arup’s European Building Division, and ran the critically acclaimed design group, AGU (Advanced Geometry Unit).
COMMUNITY wINDPOWER lTD (CWL)
CWL is a major funder of The Star and its MD Rod Wood serves on the board of SOCT. As a business dedicated to renewable energy and a sustainable future, CWL identifies closely with the inspirations for The Star. It is at the forefront of Net Zero energy development in Scotland. CWL is committed to buying Scottish and investing in its economy, creating jobs and economic development.
